Last January, our professor gave us a project to go to historical places in Manila. These were the Museum of the Filipino People in Ermita & Luneta Park. So our group decided to go there on January 31. First, we went to the Museum. A little background on the Museum, it contains the anthropological and archaeological aspects of the Ancient Philippines.
Next is the Ifugao hut. This hut is complete with household items inside is displayed at the museum ground
The San Diego Exhibit is next. The ship, the Galleon San Diego, was built as the trading ship San Antonio before hastily being converted into a warship. It also includes other objects found in the wreckage.
The skull cap of the earliest human inhabitant in the Philippines is also in the museum. Another is the replica of the Duyong Cave. Here lies the earliest intact burial ever discovered which shows traces of man during the New Stone Age.
The Butuan Boat is another object seen in the museum. This is an edged-pegged plank type of boat made from hard wood like "dongoon".
Other artifacts seen in the museum are:
- Earthenware footed tray during the metal age
- Manunggul and Maitum Jar
- Jarlet with gaping mouth from Leta-leta Cave
- Mangyan script on a tobacco container
- Laguna copperplate, Butuan silver strip
- Brass gong from a maranao community
- Hagelong, T’boli lute
- Male and female bulul
- Okir of the Maranaos, Maranao sarimanok
- Mandaya basket
- Ifugao blanket
- Gold seal which was believed to be owned by Antonio de Morga
Next is the Luneta Park where the monuments of our national hero, Jose P. Rizal & Lapu-Lapu stands there.Together with this pictures is the Philippine Map.
Well, we had a lot to take in our history that we should appreciate and should treasure. The thought that museums or historical trips are boring should be replaced with fun-filled and educational :D
I will leave you with this quote:
